Ibadan kingmakers reject Oyediji’s claim to throne

The Late Olubadan

The Olubadan-in-Council yesterday spurned the claim by the Head of the Seriki Line in Ibadan, Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Oyediji, that he is the next qualified candidate for the Olubadan stool,
According to reports by TheNation:
At the meeting were  Adetunji; the Otun Olubadan, Senator Lekan Balogun; the Otun Balogun, Chief Owolabi Olakulehin; Ashipa Olubadan, Chief Eddy Oyewole; Osi Balogun, Chief Olufemi Olaifa and Ashipa Balogun, Chief Abimbola Ajibola.

Following the death of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Samuel Odulana, on Tuesday, Oyediji had renewed his agitation for the inclusion of the Seriki Line in the chieftaincies of Ibadanland.

The 89 year-old businessman on Wednesday said he is the next person to be installed as the Olubadan and not the Balogun Olubadan, High Chief Saliu Adetunji, who has been touted for the position.
Oyediji based his claim on the fact that a previous 1989 judgment of an Oyo State High Court had favoured the Line’s qualification for elevation to the Ekerin Olubadan position whenever two consecutive positions are vacant either in the Balogun or Otun Line.
Oyediji argued that with the demise in November 2015 of two High Chiefs: Omiyale (Balogun Line) and Kuye (Otun Line), the room was open to the Seriki Line to present their candidate as the third Line in Ibadanland.
He has therefore approached an Oyo State High Court asking for a restraining order to prevent the Olubadan-in-Council‎ from installing the Olubadan-in-waiting, Adetunji, as the next Olubadan.
