The
popular Agodi Gate spare parts market in Ibadan was hit by heavy blaze destroying goods worth millions of Naira, today, Sunday 24th, January.
According to a source, the inferno, which was linked to a power surge in the
market, started around 2 a.m when all the traders had closed for the
day’s business.
Many
traders in the market lamented the huge loss recorded as a result of
the incident as the source of livelihood of many of them had been
shattered.
Findings revealed that some policemen who were on duty at a nearby police post alerted officers of the Oyo State Fire Service, who rushed to the scene, but due to insufficient water, could not put out the blaze on time.
When contacted, the Director of Fire Service, Mr. Tunji Olayinka, confirmed the incident, adding that his men were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other shops in the market.
