Obasanjo escapes death on Lagos – Ibadan expressway

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday narrowly escaped death by a whisker along the Lagos – Ibadan expressway while on his way to Lagos from Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital for a social function.
Sunday Mirror gathered that one of the rear tyres of the SUV conveying the former president to the 80th birthday celebration of mogul and pool magnate, Sir Kessington Adebutu, in Lagos suddenly burst when it entered one of the bad portions of the expressway.
Eyewitness further told our correspondent that the incident occurred on the Lagos – Ibadan portion of the expressway a few metres away from the Sagamu-interchange axis of the road.
The development, it was further gathered, forced Obasanjo to alight from his vehicle and join another one in his convoy before heading to Lagos to attend the church service where Adebutu’s programme was holding.
Obasanjo had earlier in the day attended the 10th-year memorial church service of his late wife, Stella, where the former president declared that both his family and that of his in-law, Abebe, would continue to miss the former First Lady.
Obasanjo, who spoke at the service held at Chapel of Christ the Glorious King of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, reiterated that much of the good memoirs of Stella had been in his book, ‘My Watch’.
