Crime: Oyo police go after commercial motorcyclists

The Oyo State Police Command said its men would begin the arrest of any commercial motorcyclist carrying more than one passenger to check the activities of robbers who use the means to unleash terror. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu, who spoke on the move on Tuesday, said the command arrested some robbers who disguised as commercial motorcyclists to carry out criminal activities in the state. He said, “As part of our efforts to curb crimes perpetrated by criminals operating on motorcycles in the state, the Oyo State Police Command has embarked on intensive stop-and-search during which motorcycle riders, carrying more than one passenger, whether fee paying or not, would be arrested and subsequently prosecuted.

“This action becomes necessary following intelligence report at our disposal and consequent upon recent arrest of some criminals, using motorcycles for robbery operations. Members of the public, using motorcycles, either as private or commercial, are hereby warned to desist from carrying more than one person,” he added
Ajisebutu said the command was determined to make the state safe for socio-economic activities to thrive.
