Thirty-six culverts and 43 kilometres of road have so far been completed on Section II in the on-going reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported. NAN reported that the project covered 83.4 kilometres which starts from Sagamu Interchange to Ibadan and is being handled by Reynolds Construction Company (RCC). A NAN correspondent who took a trip on the highway from the Sagamu interchange to Ibadan on Tuesday reported that 26 kilometres of ‘V drains’ had been constructed at various intervals. NAN reported that a team of engineers and other workers were seen spreading final layers of asphalt between Ajebo village and Alapako interchange using pavers, rollers and other heavy equipment.

NAN observed that median barriers and kerbs had also been completed on both the Lagos and Ibadan bound carriageways on various portions with four catch pits and the parapet walls around three finished bridges.
Similarly, work has reached the final asphalt levels on some portions at various intervals between Ajebo and Ikija villages with earth works terminating around Ekefa village.
Some engineers on site, who conducted NAN correspondent round, said that the work on the project ran from Monday to Saturday, adding that the project had never been suspended.
An authoritative source told NAN many key officers had not gone on their 2015 annual leave as part of efforts by the company’s management to ensure work was completed on time.
The source said that RCC always worked around challenges encountered and had never taken a break from the work.
The source further said the company had also evolved a construction style to speed up work and check gridlock.
Federal Ministry of Works engineer in charge of the project, Mr Nelson Olubakinde, declined detailed comment on the project, but said “you can see that we are working.”
The Project Manager for RCC, Mr Feda Natour, however, declined to speak to NAN, saying “I don’t want to talk to press.”
