Crown Note #3

We cannot all be great.
It is one of the many inevitable truths of life. Unescapable even. However, it is in all of us: the desire to be great, the wish to be something above normal, beyond mediocre. The craving to mean something. The truth remains, however, that desire differs greatly from drive. It is drive that is not common. Drive does not reside in all of us, neither does greatness.

It is drive and only drive that eradicates mediocrity. It is for those of us that refuse to settle for just okay and ache for improvement. It is quite easy to become complacent, especially when you live in a society that does not care too much for greatness. It is an apparent reflection in everything, from not painting a building that is overdue for a paint job to littering the environment. The grave evil of mediocrity is laziness.
Laziness is the reason mediocrity even exists. Laziness is the reason drive cannot exist, but must instead, subsist. “Everyday people”, norms, mediocre stars, bench warmers, procrastinators and complacent nancies are all children from the womb of the same mother, Laziness.

As I mentioned earlier, we cannot all be great. If we were all great, then greatness itself would be mediocrity! Imagine paying such a high price just to be normal. However, you can chose this day and every other day, which truth you will live.
