Crisis : 27 cars, 5 trucks vandalised as NURTW members clash in Ibadan.

There was pandemonium in Ibadan on Monday and no fewer than 27 cars and 17 trucks were vandalised by thugs suspected to be members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Oyo State branch at the Express Quarry Nigeria Limited, Kilometre 15, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the Ekefa village axis in Ibadan.
The mayhem was said to have emanated from a disagreement over the union’s collection of N2,500 from each truck driver for each load of granite from the quarry
. The truck drivers told our source that they had insisted on paying once in a day because N2,500 for each load of granites was exploitative.
Dangerous weapons such as guns, cutlasses, broken bottles, granite and clubs were used freely during the melee. A truckload of granites, a driver said, costs about N130,000. The fracas, which started at about 9:15a.m., left many people injured. Sources said nobody died during the brawl but many people had been hospitalised since Tuesday.
Many of the workers and quarry operators were said to have run into the bush and the nearby canal for safety.
